Assassin's Creed Shadows delayed again, now set for march 20 release
Ubisoft has announced another delay for its highly anticipated title, Assassin's Creed Shadows. The game, initially slated for a November 12, 2024 release, was previously pushed back to February 14, 2025. Now, the release date has been shifted once more, to March 20.
This marks the second delay for Assassin's Creed Shadows. The company stated that the additional development time will be used to further refine the game and ensure a high-quality "Day 1" experience for players.
"As part of our ongoing effort to focus on quality and deliver a compelling Day 1 experience, we have made the decision to dedicate an additional month to the development of Assassin’s Creed Shadows," Ubisoft announced.
The company further explained that this extra time will allow the development team to better integrate player feedback gathered over the past three months and "create the best possible launch conditions by continuing to work closely with the Assassin’s Creed community." The game is now scheduled to launch on March 20.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot added, “We are fully committed to making this the most ambitious Assassin’s Creed game in the series. The decision to dedicate an extra month to development on Shadows will allow us to better incorporate player feedback from the past three months, helping us realize the full potential of the game and deliver a strong end to the year.”
This second delay for Assassin's Creed Shadows comes amidst a challenging period for Ubisoft. The company is reportedly in acquisition talks with Chinese conglomerate Tencent following a turbulent 2024, which saw studio closures, game cancellations, and layoffs. Additionally, Star Wars Outlaws has underperformed commercially, and XDefiant, Ubisoft’s main competitor to Call of Duty, has been discontinued.
