Barcelona's registration of Olmo sparks outcry from Rival clubs

On January 8th, the CSD ruled that Olmo and Victor could be selected for Barcelona's squad until a final decision on their eligibility was made. This allowed the duo to be included in the squad for the Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid on January 12th.

La Liga immediately expressed its disagreement with the CSD's decision, stating that it would consider appealing the ruling. The league had previously confirmed that Barcelona had met certain financial requirements, but maintained that players who had been deregistered could not be re-registered with the same club in the same season.

Following Barcelona's semi-final victory over Athletic Bilbao on January 8th, Athletic's president, Jon Uriarte, denounced the ruling as "abominable." He argued that the decision was a temporary measure imposed by a political body and that it would have a detrimental impact on Spanish football.

Athletic Bilbao striker Inaki Williams expressed mixed feelings about the situation, congratulating Olmo and Victor while also expressing concerns about the potential damage to Spanish football's reputation. "It seems like the rules aren't the same for everyone," Williams said. "The image of Spanish football could be tarnished by so much division when many things are still unclear."

On January 9th, both Athletic Bilbao and Las Palmas publicly criticized the CSD's decision, arguing that it jeopardized the integrity of the league and set a dangerous precedent. Atletico Madrid also voiced their "deep concern" about the situation, claiming that the CSD's ruling threatened the current system and raised questions about the fairness of the competition.

La Liga president Javier Tebas expressed surprise at the CSD's decision and questioned why Real Madrid had not commented on the matter. Barcelona's director of football, Deco, defended the club's actions, stating that each club had its own issues and should focus on its own affairs.

The controversy surrounding the player registrations has highlighted deep divisions within Spanish football and raised questions about the fairness and transparency of the league's governing bodies.
