Box office battle: Den of Thieves 2 defeats Sonic and Mufasa
In a surprising twist, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera has claimed the top spot at the domestic box office, grossing $15.5 million, overtaking Disney's Mufasa: The Lion King, which brought in $13.2 million.

The Lionsgate action sequel, starring Gerard Butler and O'Shea Jackson Jr., edged out the live-action prequel to The Lion King and Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which have been locked in a close battle for weeks.
A fierce battle for family audiences
Mufasa and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 have dominated the box office for the past month, but Den of Thieves 2 broke through this weekend. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 earned $11 million, bringing its domestic total to $204.5 million, surpassing Mufasa's $188.7 million cumulative earnings.
Meanwhile, Nosferatu, a historical horror film by Robert Eggers, maintained the fourth position with $6.8 million, accumulating $81.8 million domestically. Its distinct narrative style, derived from a 19th-century epistolary novel, sets it apart from more mainstream family fare.
Global box office dynamics
Globally, Mufasa retains its top position with a weekend gross of $41 million, followed by Sonic with $31 million, Nosferatu with $20.5 million, and Den of Thieves 2 just missing the top three with $19.7 million.
Moana 2, Wicked, and Babygirl also appear on the global chart, with three new films breaking into the top 10: Octopus with Broken Arms, Big World, and Honey Money Phony.
As the weekend approaches, new releases like Wolf Man, One of Them Days, and I'm Still Here will vie for box office supremacy, making it anyone's guess who will lead next week.
