Elvish Yadav under fire for racist remarks, Chum Darang speaks out
Elvish Yadav, winner of Bigg Boss OTT 2, has sparked controversy with his racist remarks against actress Chum Darang.

The Bigg Boss 18 contestant took to Instagram Stories on Monday to call out the YouTuber for his comments, urging people to differentiate between humor and discrimination.
Chum addressed the controversy by stating, “Disrespecting someone's identity and name is not 'fun.' Mocking someone's achievements is not 'banter.' It's time we draw the line between humor and hate.” She expressed disappointment not only over the racial undertones of Elvish’s remarks but also his mockery of her role in Gangubai Kathiawadi, a film directed by the acclaimed Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
She further added, “To my fellow Northeasterners and everyone who has faced racism—I see you, I hear you, and I stand with you. We all deserve respect, dignity, and equality. Let's raise our voices against racism and promote a culture of empathy, kindness, and understanding.”
Elvish Yadav’s remarks were made during a podcast conversation with Bigg Boss 18 runner-up Rajat Dalal, where he made fun of Chum’s name and appearance, saying, “Karan Veer definitely had COVID because who even likes Chum, bro? Whose taste is that bad! And even Chum's name itself sounds so inappropriate… Her name is Chum, and she has worked in Gangubai Kathiawadi.”
Following this, social media erupted in criticism, with many calling out Elvish for his offensive remarks. Meanwhile, fans of Bigg Boss 18 recalled Chum Darang and Karan Veer Mehra’s close bond in the house, where they consistently supported each other throughout the season.
The incident has reignited discussions about racism and discrimination faced by people from Northeast India, with Chum Darang using her platform to advocate for greater awareness and respect.
