Everton appoints David Moyes as new manager
David Moyes has returned to Everton after more than a decade away, taking on a significant challenge and bringing renewed hope to the club. Prior to Moyes' appointment, Everton were struggling in 16th place in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone.
The club acted swiftly following the dismissal of Sean Dyche, confirming Moyes as his replacement on their official website. While the details of the contract remain undisclosed, Sky Sports reports that Moyes has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal, keeping him at Goodison Park until the summer of 2027.
Everton CEO Marc Watts expressed his delight at Moyes' return, stating: "We are thrilled to welcome David back to Everton at this crucial time. With over a decade of experience at the club, he is the ideal manager to guide us through our final season at Goodison Park before the move to our new stadium. We are eager to collaborate with David and build a strong foundation for a new era at Everton."
Moyes himself was clearly enthusiastic about rejoining the club where he spent over a decade of his managerial career: "There's no better feeling than returning to Everton. I enjoyed 11 successful years here and didn't hesitate when offered the chance to come back to this fantastic club. I'm excited to work with the Friedkin Group and help them rebuild the club. Right now, we need the support of the Everton fans at Goodison Park in this important season."
Moyes previously managed Everton from 2002 to 2013, overseeing 518 matches across all competitions. Although he didn't win any silverware at Goodison Park, he established Everton as a formidable force in the Premier League.
In the summer of 2013, Moyes left Everton to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United. However, his tenure at Old Trafford lasted just 10 months before he was sacked. He subsequently managed Real Sociedad, Sunderland, and West Ham.
Following the 2023/24 season, Moyes departed West Ham after his contract was not renewed. He is scheduled to make his Everton return against Aston Villa in next week's Premier League clash.
