Paul Feig confirms: A Simple Favor 2 is coming soon
Director Paul Feig has addressed recent speculation surrounding the highly anticipated sequel to the 2018 hit film A Simple Favor.

Contrary to rumors circulating on social media, Feig confirmed that the movie is not facing delays and is set to be released soon.
Feig responded to claims made in a detailed X thread by an internet commentator named Eric B, who alleged that the sequel had been shelved due to lead actress Blake Lively’s legal disputes with It Ends With Us costar and director, Justin Baldoni. Feig dismissed these assertions, stating, “This is total BS. Sorry. The movie is finished and coming out soon. Don't believe anything you read on social media these days."
In a follow-up post, Feig assured fans of the film’s quality, praising the performances of Lively and Anna Kendrick. “The movie is awesome, and Blake and Anna turn in amazing performances. I can't wait for you all to see it. Stay tuned for more details. A Simple Favor 2 is coming soon!"
A sequel on the horizon
The original A Simple Favor, based on Darcey Bell's novel, follows the intriguing friendship between mommy blogger Stephanie (Kendrick) and the enigmatic Emily (Lively). When Emily disappears, Stephanie delves into a web of secrets and mysteries. The film was a box office success, earning over $97 million and receiving critical acclaim for its stylish and suspenseful narrative.
The sequel wrapped filming in 2024, but Eric B’s post suggested that tensions between Lively and Kendrick, along with Lively’s legal issues, were delaying the film's release. Feig quickly debunked these claims, emphasizing the normal process of post-production, which includes editing, scoring, and special effects. He explained, "Movies don't come out the second they're finished because the studio spends the previous year deciding the best date to release it. We've always planned on something in the spring/summer of this year."
Lively’s legal battle
Blake Lively’s ongoing legal issues with Justin Baldoni have also captured public attention. Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment and running a smear campaign against her during the production of It Ends With Us. Feig expressed his support for Lively, describing her as “one of the most professional, creative, collaborative, talented, and kind people” he has worked with.
Baldoni has denied the allegations and filed a lawsuit against The New York Times for libel after the publication reported on Lively's claims. Additionally, Baldoni faces another lawsuit from his former publicist, Stephanie Jones, who accuses his current publicity team of conspiring against her to undermine Lively’s reputation.
Despite the controversies, Feig remains optimistic about the sequel's release, promising fans that A Simple Favor 2 will deliver the suspense and intrigue that made the original film a standout.
