The Tennessee-based queen, who has been an active trans rights advocate and former president of Chattanooga Pride, has spoken out against Trump’s recent executive order banning trans women from competing in women’s sports.

During her exit interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hormona Lisa reacted to the controversial order, titled "Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports," which Trump signed earlier this week. The policy allows federally funded institutions to bar transgender women and girls from participating in female sports categories.

"One thing I’ve always tried to do is validate and love myself from within, so I don’t need it externally," Hormona said. "That’s something we’re all going to have to focus on developing, especially in the next four years. This won’t be the last attack on trans and queer people."

She expressed her frustration, calling the situation "surreal" and lamenting the country’s apparent regression on LGBTQ+ rights. "We were moving forward in terms of public perception of trans people, but then things like this happen, and it feels like we’re going backward," she added.

Growing concerns over Trump’s policies

Trump’s administration has already introduced multiple policies affecting the transgender community since his inauguration on January 20. In addition to the sports ban, there are discussions about barring trans people from serving in the military, restricting funding for gender-affirming healthcare for trans youth, and limiting discussions on gender identity in schools.

"It’s hard to find the words because I never thought I’d have to feel like this in my lifetime," Hormona said. "I thought we were past fighting just to be seen as human."

Her comments come amid widespread backlash against Trump’s policies. Actress and activist Laverne Cox recently appeared on The View, where she condemned the administration’s rhetoric against the LGBTQ+ community.

"Trans people are less than 1% of the population," Cox said. "We are not the reason you can’t afford healthcare, buy a house, or pay rent. They’re focused on the wrong 1%."

She encouraged trans individuals to stay strong, reminding them of the resilience of their community. "We’ve been criminalized before, yet we’ve always found ways to access gender-affirming care—maybe not from a doctor, but we did it. We will always do it, no matter what."

A special moment on Drag Race

Despite the political turmoil, RuPaul’s Drag Race continues to be a space of celebration and empowerment. This week’s episode featured a memorable visit from Euphoria actress Hunter Schafer, who met with contestants during the Untucked companion series.

Hormona and fellow trans contestant Lexi Love were thrilled to meet Schafer. "I can feel the trans power radiating through," Lexi said, overwhelmed by the moment.

Schafer embraced them, raising her fist in solidarity. "Oh my God. Wow, thanks for being here and representing!" she told them.

RuPaul’s Drag Race airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
