The triumphant return of Pamela Anderson with The Last Showgirl

The show, which delved into one of the most challenging chapters of her life, was produced without her consent, yet it has inadvertently spotlighted her talent and resilience.

In a recent interview on Andy Cohen Live, Anderson discussed her journey of reclaiming her narrative and promoting her new movie, The Last Showgirl. The film marks a pivotal moment in her career, coming just two years after Pam & Tommy aired, dramatizing the infamous theft and release of a private home video with her ex-husband, Tommy Lee.

Unauthorized and uninvolved

Anderson revealed that she learned about Hulu’s project while filming her Netflix documentary, Pamela, a love story. "No one reached out to me," she shared, expressing her hurt over being excluded from the project. Despite this, Pam & Tommy moved forward, with Lily James and Sebastian Stan portraying Anderson and Lee. The series focused on the theft of their private tape, a story originally chronicled in a 2014 Rolling Stone article.

Though James attempted to connect with Anderson through a letter, Anderson chose not to engage. James later expressed her wish that Anderson had been involved, while the showrunners also acknowledged their failed attempts to gain her input or approval.

Ethical concerns and personal reflection

Speaking to Cohen, Anderson criticized the ethics of creating a series based on her life’s traumatic events without her participation. She reflected on the public perception of celebrities as "fair game," acknowledging the loss of privacy that comes with fame. Despite her frustration, Anderson remains focused on her current achievements rather than dwelling on past grievances.

Reclaiming her legacy

Since the release of Pam & Tommy, Anderson has taken control of her narrative through her memoir, Love, Pamela, and her Netflix documentary, co-produced by her son, Brandon Thomas Lee. These projects have allowed her to present her story on her terms, shifting the spotlight from scandal to her personal and professional journey.

As The Last Showgirl garners positive reviews, Anderson finds solace in being recognized for her work rather than the "tawdry moments" depicted in Pam & Tommy. "I'm being seen and recognized for my work," she stated, underscoring her belief that success is the best form of retribution. With her career back on track, Anderson is proving that her talent and story extend far beyond the controversies of the past.
